Introduction to Meditation

Four-week Meditation series with Cator Shachoy

Come and learn to meditate.  Insight meditation, or Vipassana, was taught by the Buddha over 2,500 years ago. This timeless practice continues to have relevance for our lives today.  Insight meditation is the practice of sitting quietly and observing one’s breath and body sensations.  Through this simple way of cultivating stillness, we can learn to calm the mind, quiet the body, and heal the heart.

Class time will consist of periods of sitting & walking meditation, and discussion. Beginning instruction will be offered.  There will be time for questions.  No previous meditation experience required.

Suggested fee for 4-week Introductory course is $60.  Sliding scale is available.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds.  Register here.

A meditation cushion or bench is recommended.

Cator Shachoy began the practice of Vipassana, or Insight meditation, in 1990 due to chronic illness.  At the same time she became interested in yoga and energetic healing.  Through the regular practice of these disciplines she began to recover her strength and vitality.  In 1995 Cator moved to San Francisco, where she teaches yoga & meditation classes to adults and youth, and has a private practice in Craniosacral bodywork.  Cator is an Iyengar yoga instructor, a practitioner of Visionary Craniosacral bodywork, and is the founder of Youth Yoga Dharma, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering the skills of yoga & meditation to youth.   She delights in sharing these healing practices which inspire her life.
