We are excited to welcome Darren Main back to the team! Darren was one of the original founders of Castro Yoga, now Yoga Garden SF, and he will be leading our Restorative Yoga teacher Training.
Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?
I’m a single gay father.
How did you become interested in yoga?
I found yoga through the 12 Steps. My body, heart and mind felt broken beyond repair and yoga helped me to heal all three as worked on my sobriety.
Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?
I started yoga with more active practices like Kripalu and vinyasa, but over time have come to find my home in the more gentle, contemplative and restorative forms of practice.
Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?
In my restorative classes I try to created a refuge from the business and stress of the outside world. By using supported poses, hot stones and other tools, students are invited to truly let go.
Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?
I’m working on releasing “The Living Yoga Intensive”—a 90-day online program that explores advanced meditation and pranayama techniques, some of the yogic cleansing practices as well as a modern yogic lifestyle.
Anything else you’d like to share with the YGSF community?
I’m excited to be sharing practice with such a wonderful community of yogis!
That’s all for now! Visit Darren’s website and follow him on Instagram: @darrenjmain.
