Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?
I love spending time outdoors, walking my dog, playing tennis, skiing, doing yoga outdoors. Nature is a wonderful teacher!
How did you become interested in yoga?
I was a practice student for a friend when she was going through her teacher training many years ago. I was fortunate to receive some personalized guidance when I was first starting out. That first out of body bliss experience in savasana hooked me in. Decades later, I still love this practice because it brings about a sense of balance or equanimity through the changing nature of all things.
Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?
At the start of my practice, I loved a good sweaty vinyasa flow, but was also drawn to the precision and alignment in iyengar. Now, I practice a combination of a slower hatha flow, yin and restorative. I want to stay healthy and active doing the things I love, so am very mindful to listen to my body. So many wonderful teachers have inspired my teachings: Annie Carpenter, Tias Little, Jason Crandall, Maile Sivert, Michele Klink, Hillary Skibell, Christy Brown.
Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?
I invite students to set an intention for each practice. The experience on the mat is shaped by our attention. The exact same sequence can feel very different through a shift in intention. I try to offer variations for poses so the practice is accessible for all bodies. I encourage rest and relaxation as much as the effort in the practice. The reward is watching students really drop into their bodies and the soft whisper of their breath at the end of practice.
Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?
Yes! I am co-leading a Pilates and Yoga retreat with my friend, Hilary Power in March 2023
