Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training
Intersectional Yoga Teaching | 9 Hours – VIRTUAL with Ro Grace
In this module, join yoga teacher and cultural competency specialist Ro Grace (E-RYT 500) in exploring intersectionality: a framework to understand how aspects of a person’s social and political identities combine to create different lived experiences. No matter our individual backgrounds, we’ve all been negatively impacted by white supremacy culture, capitalism, and hetero-patriarchy. To dismantle this harmful culture and the trauma at the heart of its design, we’ll learn the process of how to decouple our healing from oppressive institutions and teach yoga in an intersectional way. Through lecture, discussion, and somatic exercises, you will:
- Go back in time to fetch the true intentions of the ancient healing practice of yoga and carry it forth, bringing along your own personal ancestral practices.
- Gain a better understanding of how modern yoga often functions as a tool of oppression (rather than healing), and the ways in which we each play a part in this paradigm.
- Be empowered to create more inclusive spaces of healing in your own classrooms. This module includes lecture and group discussion, as well as somatic exercises geared toward self-inquiry and ancestral healing.
This module can be taken as part of the 40-Hour Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training. Our expert-led, Yoga Alliance-approved teacher training is a comprehensive educational experience designed to teach you how trauma expresses itself in the mind and body and shows up in the yoga room. Grounded in social theory, modern neuroscience, and yoga philosophy, you will learn teaching methods to skillfully address the impact of trauma on the body and mind, and trauma-informed movement, contemplative, and community experiences.
