This month we welcomed a new teacher to the Yoga Garden SF team: Sarah Koh!
How did you become interested in yoga?
I discovered yoga in my late teens when I hit a period of ‘the dark night of the soul.’ I was in a hospital healing from all sorts of trauma when I took a few therapeutic classes. I developed my own practice intuitively and healed myself completely before ever taking one step into a yoga studio or ever reading a book on yoga. It was a deep five-year internal climb before I started the advanced yoga teaching trainings in New York. After that I was on a search and traveled through India, Thailand, Tibet, etc. studying, living, and practicing.
I started yoga to heal, and it completely transformed me. I intuitively developed my own practice for the first few years, then studied in NY with Ishta Yoga, Be Yoga, and Yoga Works. After that I studied in Sri Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh India, and in many studios while living in Chiang Mai, Thailand where I was also studying Traditional Thai Massage at the time. I have studied and practiced with many, many great teachers and healers. Recently, I have been getting more into bioenergetic techniques and working with the energy body.
My teaching style is breathe-based and really connects the mind, body, and spirit. It is organic with basic alignment principles and is more on the therapeutic end. My purpose is to guide students to find their own truth, practice, and authentic movement. I like students to feel free to explore and find what aligns for them naturally. I weave in teachings from everywhere and try to keep things as real as can be!
International Workshops and making amazing art! Too many plans and dreams to fit in this box 🙂
Happy to have found my yoga home in San Francisco!
