Joey Gottlieb

E-RYT 500

Joey (E-RYT 500) is a Bay Area-based alignment and vinyasa yoga teacher. After studying and training for years on the East Coast, he made his way to the Bay Area and is happy to be finding a home here at Folk. Joey began his studies in Anusara Yoga, an alignment-based form of asana practice. Working off of that foundation, he folded in additional studies in vinyasa yoga. Joey apprenticed under a number of teachers, including Amy Ippoliti, Ellen De Jonge, and Douglas Brooks, a scholar of Indian religion and philosophy accumulating thousands of hours of training. Using his 20 years of practice and 15 years of teaching experience to create precise, playful, and deceptively challenging classes. Just as much as it is a personal practice, Joey believes yoga to be a deeply relational experience. Studying in community, laughing, and supporting each other is a great way to learn. Joey also serves as the Director of Education for Folk Yoga School, overseeing the teacher training programs.
