Bare Feet, Better Life

written by: Sonya Genel

A little while ago I decided that I need a regular ritual to connect with nature. Living in an urban environment, I couldn’t easily go hiking or find a natural place to visit daily. So I started going to our little neighborhood park with bare feet.

My partner Arasa decided to join me. We have been putting our feet on the dirt and grass a couple times a week or as often as we can. The benefits we felt were immediate. Energetic balance, emotional stability, pain relief, and mental clarity are a few tangible effects I can describe.

I did a little research and learned about “Earthing”. I discovered this is a term used to describe the fast-growing movement based on the understanding that connecting to the Earth’s natural energy is foundational for vibrant health. Check out this video:

Interested? I recommend you try this simple exercise that i’ve been doing and feel the benefits for yourself:

  • Go outside
  • Take off your shoes & socks and stand on the earth (grass, dirt, or sand)
  • Inhale and lift your arms up to the sky and receive vital life energy
  • Exhale and lower your arms down and release stagnant negative energy
  • Repeat for just 5-10 minutes
  • Enjoy!

There are many other simple and free practices we can do regularly to care for ourselves. Small acts can create big radical life changes. Arasa and I are committed to teaching and holding space for such practices. So we are offering a special retreat in Mendocino County CA from April 28-May 1, 2018 called Spring Renewal Retreat.

Our intention for this retreat is to hold space for you to learn and practice some powerful yet easy self-care exercises such as the bare footed earthing breath described above. We will also be offering classes with yoga, meditation, and sound healing. Delicious nourishing vegetarian food will be cooked daily. There are even hot springs nearby, and a red wood forest to go hiking through.
