Although many of us chant the syllable OM in yoga class, we may not know its deeper meanings and the many secrets it contains. OM, a syllable in Sanskrit, is an auditory symbol that reveals the relationship of the true self or soul (atma) to the physical world (jagat). In this workshop, we will explore the different Sanskrit letters and sounds that make up OM along with its spiritual symbology and meaning. With this deeper understanding, we will move into a meditative yoga practice, incorporating simple mantras into rounds of sun salutations, so that we can feel the resonance of the meaning of OM in our bodies and minds. This workshop draws on the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta and, specifically, the Mandukya Upanishad, an ancient text that speaks about the power of chanting OM. Rosa Lynley (RYT 500) has 12 years of study in the lineage of Advaita Vedanta. This workshop is open to practitioners of all levels and will include lecture, discussion, chanting, breathwork, and movement.
