Featured Teacher: Christie Pitko

Christie Pitko yoga

As part of our merger with Moxie Yoga, we are excited to welcome Christie Pitko to the team!

Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?

Hmm…I share a lot with my students, so there probably isn’t too much they don’t already know. But, I trained at the Second City in Chicago in comedy and improvisation at their conservatory. I’ve worked in theatre and in commercials.

How did you become interested in yoga?

I started yoga back in 2001 at a fitness studio, and I loved the way it made me feel. After awhile, like so many of us, I realized the benefits went well beyond the physical.

Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?

When I started to get more serious about yoga, it was at a wonderful Ashtanga studio in Las Vegas called It’s Yoga. I primarily practiced Ashtanga for the first 5-6 years of my journey. Much later, I became more interested in vinyasa with more awareness. Fast forward to the past 6 years: My primary teacher now is Annie Carpenter in SmartFlow. I’m also certified in SmartFlow Yoga.

Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?

I don’t teach fast and I don’t teach casually. You can expect to get a strong, well-balanced, alignment-based class (and probably a joke or 2).

Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?

I host multiple retreats each year in Costa Rica and near Yosemite.

That’s all for now! Visit Christie’s website and follow her on Instagram: @christiepitko.
