Trauma-Informed YTT: Intersectional Yoga Teaching (Fall 2024)

September 25 - October 10

Are you a yoga teacher interested in learning to teach yoga in a trauma-informed way? Do you want to make your classes a safer and more inclusive space? Join our expert-led Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)! In this comprehensive 45-hour Yoga Alliance-approved teacher training, you’ll study with highly skilled trauma-informed instructors and learn how trauma affects our thoughts, expresses itself in the body, and shows up in the yoga room. Students in this program explore a wide range of topics, including intersectionality, mindfulness, somatic psychology, neuroscience, and how yoga philosophy intersects with modern psychology on the topic of trauma. This interactive training is entirely online, so it can be taken from anywhere!

This module–Intersectional Yoga Teaching with yoga teacher and cultural competency specialist Europa Grace (500 E-RYT)–explores the concept of intersectionality, which is a framework for understanding how aspects of a person’s social and political identities combine to create different lived experiences. No matter our individual backgrounds, we have all been negatively impacted by white supremacy culture, capitalism, and hetero-patriarchy. In order to dismantle this harmful culture, and the trauma that is a systematic part of its design, we must commit to a process of decoupling our healing from these oppressive institutions, and teach yoga in an intersectional way.

In this training, you’ll go back in time to fetch the true intentions of the ancient healing practice of yoga and carry it forth, bringing along your own personal ancestral practices. You’ll gain a better understanding of how modern yoga often functions as a tool of oppression (rather than healing), and the ways in which we each play a part in this paradigm. You’ll also be empowered to create more inclusive spaces of healing in your own classrooms. This module includes lecture and group discussion, as well as somatic exercises geared toward self-inquiry and ancestral healing.

This module can be taken only as part of the complete Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training. The Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training provides 45 elective contact hours in Folk’s 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training, or 45 CEUs if you are already a registered yoga teacher.
